Hotel receptionist is the person or persons working at the front desk of a hotel, greeting guests on arrival and helping them with problems during their stay. A hotel receptionist can also be referred to as a porter. Most hotels require their reception simply to have a high school diploma, although some may have an associate’s degree in a field such as business or hotel management.

In daily work, a hotel receptionist will probably need to answer phones when called potential guests to answer questions or make reservations. He or she must lead stored records and potentially create and maintain them in a file, and keep their work tidy, because it’s the first thing a guest can be seen on entering the hotel. Receptionists may work full time or part time, and hotels often have a receptionist at the front desk 24 hours a day, so shifts can vary considerably. Hotel receptionists are likely to be promoted in a managerial capacity, if her success at her job.
