The Emergence of A Top Player in the Airline Industry.

Pegged as being the fourth largest European airlines, Turkish Airlines has been moving quite aggressively into the position of the airline industry's leader. The airlines flies to locations around the round like Asia, Europe, North America, South America and is making plans to provide service in certain locations of Africa. This company has been flying the skies for almost 80 years. Their story is filled with the expected highs and lows. However, the thing of importance for all businesses, and maybe an airline even more so, is that they are still kicking and are even more stronger today than at their start.

The airline suffered through several decades of poor reputation, especially in the 70s and 80s, as multiple problems plagued the company, from poor customer service through to delayed flights. There were also seven accidents reported in the years from 1974 to 1983, as well as multiple serious events. The highest levels of government intervened to turn around the fortunes of the airline throughout the late 80s to give it a brighter future. In fact, Turkish Airlines have seen an abrupt about-face since the turn of the century that has heralded a positive decade of blue skies ahead.
With four weekly flights, the newest destination to receive Turkish Airlines' flights is Valencia in Spain. Then the following month, April, routine weekly flights will begin for the Malaga (Spain) to Istanbul route. There will be a flight available three times per week. These destinations are being added to the existing routes that Turkish Airlines flies to Spain, namely Barcelona and Madrid. This is planned to be quite a busy year for the Turkish airline and these additional routes are just the start of it. Turkish Airlines will add quite a number of destinations to their already impressive list throughout 2011. This summer, for example, will be witness to a number of routes being established to France, with destinations such as Nice, Paris, Toulouse and Lyon. With the year just beginning, Turkish Airlines will be operating 175 international routes with these additions.
Turkish Airlines reported a 9M net profit of 169 million USD, making 2010 the best year the company has had to date. The company's overall revenue from sales grew substantially to 5 billion USD, or by 39%. With the intent of increasing revenue generated by business class passengers, the company is building a fleet that will consist of long-haul aircraft, specifically the Boeing 777-300ER. There are also plans in the works to use wide-body jets to haul cargo to international destinations. While last year's figures were not exactly expected, they were, nevertheless, quite pleasant. This surge could also be due to the fact that the company has been actively marketing their brand all over the world. Targeted goals include making inroads in the US markets as well as continued growth in Asia.
The purpose of the Turkish Airlines rewards program is to get people to upgrade to better classes as often as possible. Their passengers and customers have a lot more to gain from this. 038; Smiles members can upgrade their tickets from Economy, Business or Comfort Classes. Upgrading can be done to the following classes: First, Comfort an Business. Of course, passengers must have sufficient miles to perform the upgrade. The history of Turkish Airlines, while extensive, shows the airline had quite a few problems at the beginning. There are so many challenges airlines have to resolve that this is not surprising. The airline has gone through many changes at all levels from the top on down. However, just as with individuals, this company learned from past mistakes and has emerged as a very strong and adaptable company. This has been a very small peek into what seems to be eventful and exciting times at Turkish Airlines.
